Cloud Connect
If your cloud applications are not performing the way your provider promised, the problem is almost certainly not the cloud.
Cloud providers build exceptional infrastructure. When enterprises connect to it over the public internet, which most do by default, that infrastructure’s performance is limited by shared, variable, and unpredictable routing that was not designed for enterprise application workloads. Latency fluctuates, throughput varies by the time of day, and when your compliance team asks where your data traveled, the honest answer is it went wherever the public internet took it.
Cloud Connect creates a direct, private connection between your infrastructure and cloud provider, bypassing the public internet entirely. Performance is consistent, data paths are auditable, and compliance requirements are met by design. The service is delivered through a software-defined network-as-a-service platform connected to all major cloud providers across over 700 locations worldwide and managed end-to-end by our team.

How It Works
Cloud Connect is built on a software-defined network-as-a-service platform, with a direct physical presence in cloud providers’ facilities worldwide. This is what enables rapid provisioning and dynamic scaling, without traditional circuit lead times.
Globalgig manages the full lifecycle, including design, provisioning, ongoing operations, monitoring, and a single support relationship. You deal with Globalgig. The underlying connectivity platform operates behind the scenes.
Cloud Connect is provisioned, monitored, and managed through the same operational framework as your other Globalgig services, such as internet, private networking, and SD-WAN. Faults are managed by the same NOC team, and changes go through the same process. There is no separate support path, escalation, or boundary between your WAN and your cloud connectivity services when something needs to be resolved.
Globalgig offers faster provisioning than traditional private circuits. Physical private circuit provisioning can take weeks. Cloud Connect is a software-defined model that enables connections to be provisioned and scaled within hours, which is important for cloud deployments that cannot wait on carrier lead times.
Frequently
Asked
Questions
Our cloud applications are slow, and the cloud provider says their infrastructure is fine. What is going on?
This is extremely common. Cloud provider infrastructure typically performs as advertised. The variable that most enterprises have not addressed is how they reach it. Public internet routing introduces latency, packet loss, and throughput variation, which is invisible until someone measures it.
Cloud Connect eliminates the public internet from your path, so your traffic goes directly to the cloud provider’s network from your infrastructure, without crossing shared internet routing. If you want to understand whether your connectivity is limiting your cloud performance, speak to Globalgig, and we can help you assess it.
What is the difference between Cloud Connect and connecting to the cloud over the internet?
Internet-based cloud connectivity routes traffic across the public internet, which is shared, variable, and outside your control, from your edge to the cloud provider’s network.
Cloud Connect creates a direct private connection that bypasses the public internet entirely. Performance is consistent and predictable, and your data takes a documented, and auditable path. Compliance requirements around data transit are satisfied properly. The cost difference between the two is often more than offset by the performance improvement and compliance assurance.
What does Megaport provide, and what does Globalgig offer?
Megaport provides the software-defined network infrastructure and physical presence in cloud provider facilities worldwide. Globalgig offers managed services, including design, procurement, and provisioning through a single point of contact. For organizations that want ongoing management, Globalgig’s Managed Network Services adds proactive monitoring through Orchestra Insight, as well as fault management, carrier escalation, and full circuit lifecycle management. One relationship, team, and a single bill.
How quickly can Cloud Connect be provisioned?
Significantly faster than traditional private circuits. The software-defined infrastructure enables connections to be provisioned in as little as a few hours, compared to weeks that physical circuit provisioning typically requires.
We use AWS and Azure. Can we connect them to each other without routing through our data center?
Yes, cloud-to-cloud connectivity services — routing traffic between cloud providers privately and directly — is a core capability of Cloud Connect. It eliminates the backhaul that routing cloud-to-cloud traffic through your on-premises infrastructure creates, reducing latency and freeing up bandwidth at your data center.
Can Cloud Connect support our disaster recovery architecture?
Yes,redundant connections and failover design are available. Cloud Connect can also support data replication between on-premises environments and cloud infrastructure as a component of a broader disaster recovery or business continuity architecture.
Fix the Cloud Path, Not Just the Connection
Cloud performance depends on the full path between your sites, users, applications, and cloud platforms.
